Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) has officially flagged off a 68-member delegation to participate in the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games scheduled to take place in Mukono.
The MMU contingent will compete in seven disciplines, including pool, woodball, darts, chess, scrabble, basketball and athletics.
The flag-off ceremony was presided over by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Coxwell Achanga, who urged the athletes to uphold discipline and represent the institution with integrity. He reminded the team to remain guided by the university’s core values of hard work, teamwork and integrity throughout the competition.
Prof. Achanga commended the students for actively engaging in sports, noting that student-athletes often perform better academically due to improved mental wellness and balance.

“Sports help students relax mentally, and those who participate tend to excel academically. As a university, we remain committed to excellence both in academics and co-curricular activities,” Achanga said.
He further pledged increased financial support for sports, expressing hope that the additional funding will enable the university to participate in more disciplines in future editions of the games.

The delegation is headed by the Dean of Students, Madam Roselyne Ssali, as MMU eyes a competitive outing at the national university sports event.

The 2025 tournament marks only the second appearance of Mountains of the Moon University at the AUUS Games, having made their debut during the 2023 edition, highlighting the institution’s growing investment in university sports.
