More Drama In Court, Kyagulanyi’s Advocates Lack Updated Practicing Licenses, Chief Judge Adjourns Petition Application Hearing

National Unity Platform Principal Robert Kyagulanyi’s application to withdraw the petition challenging Museveni’s presidential win has taken another twist after his advocates confessed before Chief Justice that their practicing certificates expired.
It’s today when the High court in Kampala was to hear Kyagulanyi’s application to withdraw the petition. However, his lawyers through Medard Lubega Ssegona openly told the Judges’ panel that their practicing certificates had expired and the process to renew delayed.
“We are not unprofessional, that’s why we saw it necessary to raise this matter before court since the law provides that every lawyer must have a practicing certificate, it’s not in our practice to operate outside the law but this is a matter that requires being expedited.” Ssegona presenting their case to Court.
“We applied to the law council to renew our practicing certificates and the truth is that there’s a delay but they’re being processed” says Ssegona.
However, Chief Justice Owiny Dollo’s response to them has surprised everyone for he has asked them if they have informed the matter to the court registrar and has gone ahead to make it easy for them get temporary certificates.
“You’re given up-to 5pm today to obtain those practicing certificates. Let me make it easy for you. I am directing the court registrar to give you temporary certificates that will expire on 18th.March. 2021 to enable the prosecution of this petition” says Dollo.
The chief Justice has adjourned the matter to tomorrow as the day when the hearing of the application to withdraw the petition will take place.
According to constitution, every advocate must have a practicing certificate renewable after one year and it’s done by the Law Council.
