Monthly Awards:Ssebatindira on Double, Rugby Cranes The USPA best for October, September Accolades
The association that brings together the Sports Journalists, the Uganda Press Sports Association has today, Monday awarded the best sports personalities for the month of September and and October.
Not from their usual place where they held their monthly Assemblies every the first Monday of the month at Imperial Royale hotel Kampala, today the assembly was held at Uganda Olympic Committee head offices at Lugogo and it’s where they awarded the best performers for two months from different categories.
The association didn’t hold the September assembly, so they decided to have two in one awarding event, they voted Uganda Rugby Cranes 7s team who secured a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Men’s Cup in Zimbabwe, earning a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games repechage, the team beat the National Ludo team, the Doves who defended the Africa Ludo Championship held in Durban.
Rugby Cranes garnered 185 votes beating the Doves who collected 165 votes.
The pair of Husnah Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi who won a gold medal and bronze medals in Women doubles of Benin International held in the month of September were given a honorable attention too.
The nine year old Joseph Ssebatindira who made history in Egypt and became The first-ever Table Tennis World Champion from Uganda, emerging victorious in the under-11 World Table Tennis Youth Contender tournament in Cairo, Egypt, he scooped two Awards, the one for the month of October and the best younger player in the same month.
For the personality of the month, Ssebatindira garnered 235 votes beating Lady Rugby Cranes who got 220 votes.
Unanimously, Ssebatindira scooped the younger player for the month of October.
The Supportive/ Assist Award went to Rugby Lady Cranes physio, Nelson Mayeku who collected 340 votes beating Bulemeezi sazza goalkeeping coach, Ali Kiguddu who got 325 votes.
At the same event, USPSA announced the Plascon-USPA Media Awards for the month of September and October.
For the month of September, Ernest Akorebirungi won that of the broadcast, Andrew Mwanguhya for Print and Website.
October it’s was Swaib Raul Kanyike.
