Buganda Regional League: Why Bugerere United Come into Existence

The Buganda Regional League season 2023/24 matchday two was played over the weekend and it has got new faces including Bugerere United FC that will play this season in names of Uganda Sports Arena FC.

Uganda Sports Arena FC was placed in Katonga group but Bugerere United changed management and in final relocation to new home none other than Kayunga Bugerere.

Speaking to one of the top officials of Bugerere United FC, and the President of Kayunga Community Club, a foundation that helps the needy in Kayunga, revealed the reason as to why they opted to start Bugerere United FC.

“One of the main reasons as to why we started up this football club is to expose the talents we have in Kayunga, we’re going to be playing from Katonga group that has clubs from Mityana, Wakiso, Masaka, Mubende and other parts of Buganda where our players will be traveling, this will expose more of their talents” says Bwogi Joseph Mpagi, one of the leaders of Bugerere United FC.

“This team will also help us to unity the community of Kayunga that’s why the team has people from Kayunga central, Nazigo, Bbaale, Busaana, and this is what we want.” He added.

Bwogi also asserted that they want to revive the Bugerere FC which was in Super League, the season of 2008/09, though it was relegated in the same season, only managed to secure 23 points in 34 games they played in that season.

For starters, since then, no club from Kayunga has even made it to first or second tier of Uganda.

The team before playing their first game in Buganda Regional League, where they will be hosting Entebbe Pride at Ntenjeru Saza Ground, they had a build up match on Sunday and shared spoils with Latifa Mixed Secondary School FC following a one all draw.

Their tactician, Andama Siraje though he wasn’t happy with the result but was impressed with the display of his boys and he believes they’re ready to compete in the league.

Uganda Sports Arena/Bugerere United FC will kick off the season on Sunday at home hosting Entebbe Pride FC.
