KAYUNGA: “Youths are turning too much on us”, Kitimbwa Town Council Leaders Cry out to Govt Over Rampant Land grabbing
Mayor Kitimbwa town council Sophia Nalwanga while attending the Commemoration of International Day of Old persons held in Kyerima ward- Kayunga District organized by an NGO which advocate for rights of Old persons called Jehovah Alive for Oldage (JAFOA), said that land grabbing practices in Kitimbwa town council are the order of the day leaving many Older persons homeless.
Nalwanga adds that land grabbers have used the ignorance of old persons about their rights and took their land for Free and government has never done something good to stop it, despite having land officers at the district.
Nalwanga has also advised government to give out new National Identity Cards to Old persons such that they benefit in government programs because most of them have IDs which doesn’t match with thier real age.
“And we blow this trumpet even to the youths, women and to the younger that elder persons have to be included in every community development, they have to have a say, tht why as the government from the national level to community, at least every city we have a representative of elder persons.” Says Sophia Nalwanga, Kitimbwa Town Council Mayor.
Meanwhile the Executive Director of JAFOA has called upon government to continue puting up intiatives that help old people to live happily in their remaining days of life.
The land grabbing is in excess, they youths are much into this, they are too wise to elders, when they see an old person who is 80 years plus, they see him or her as not a human, these youths bypass and use the blockers to sell these lands without the knowledge of the elders, they are too much here and we request for help from the government.”
The International Day of Old persons is officially held on every first day of October but JAFOA has decided to commemorate it in November at Kayunga District and over 200, older persons have attended and also received free medication and other healthy activities.
