‘Mbu!’,Government Seek To End Extreme Hunger And Poverty In Uganda

On Friday 25th, November 2022, at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala, Hon Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Mr Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, addressed the media saying that government is trying to curb extreme poverty in Uganda through the presidential directives like job and wealth creation, the parish development model and emyooga.

All these programs came into existence so that people should at least start saving money which can help them to access affordable credit and save jointly in order to increase their household income across the country. Therefore, if people leave that chance, then there is no one to blame as well.

The microfinance has organized a two-day conference starting from 29th to 30th November 2022 at Hotel Africana, Kampala, and it is expected to bring together stakeholders from the industry within and outside Uganda, and this annual conference will run under the theme, _”Drivers for sustainable microfinance and savings groups in Uganda”_ .

The microfinance is aimed to discuss on how to promote the adoption of digital technologies in the microfinance sector and savings groups through sharing of practical experiences and case studies, and also to explore the potential of green finance in strengthening growth and sustainable microfinance and savings groups in Uganda. Therefore, all Ugandans are advised to follow the ministry’s platforms to be informed.

Executive Director for the Association of Microfinance Institutions of Uganda, Madam Jacqueline Mbabazi, said that for those who are single minded on how to use money, they should wake-up and start creating businesses, because the government is ready to release more money to the established SACCOS.

Ms Jackline also added that the purpose of the government funding is that the money should be used by the poor people to increase their household income.

Hon Kasolo said that the conference, therefore, comes at the right time when we all need to reflect and focus on key achievements, challenges and opportunities for the development of the industry.

Hon Kasolo also added that for all these years, the government has focused on developing the sector, and some interventions have been made, all aligned to support the national development program whose goal is to increase household income and the wellbeing of the people.
