Masaza Cup 2025: Kyaggwe off to Quarterfinals, Buddu Switches to Pray for Me lane as Gomba Officially Says Goodbye

The 2024 losing finalists, Kyaggwe football team becomes the first County to qualify to the 2025 quarter final stage after securing a 1-0 victory against Mawogola on Sunday at Bishops SS grounds. 

Marvin Busuulwa scored from spot kick in the 80th minute to send the Bukunja Warriors to 18 points which are enough to have them a slot in the last eight.

In the same line, despite losing 2-1 against unbeaten Bugerere, Buwekula is only a point away from joining Kyaggwe at quarters, the side is at 16 points after match day eight, the tormentor, Bugerere, the win moved the Farmers to 14 points, thanks to goals from Henry Wamala and Mike Katumwa, the only consolation for Buwekula came from Alex Talemwa.

The defending champions, Buddu lost their third match of the season, they lost 1-0 to Busiro, thanks to a sole goal from defender, Tasumba Bruhan. The loss left the three time champions to nine points, six behind the Bulange group table leader, Buluuli. This leaves them in the hands of Almighty and calculator.

The 2015 champions, Singo shared spoils with Butambala in a one all draw, the encounter the exhibited some unsporting behaviors and it was graced by the sports Minister,Owek. Robert Sserwanga who condemned the acts.

“We should reflect ourselves on the cause of this tournament before our desires and egos” Sserwanga said.

Butambala officials commanded their players not to continue with the match citing a controversial equalizer from Singo in the 70th minute of the game blaming the referee for failing to regulate the number of balls at the pitch before the goal that brought the game at a stand still till the final whistle.

After losing to Ssese, 1-0, Gomba Lions confirmed out of the race and can’t qualify to quarter final even if the win all their remaining fixtures. And this is the second consecutive time when Gomba is failing to make it out of the group.
