Kampala University Go International, Celebrates Taifa International Woodball Championship Victory

Kampala University Woodball team, the KU Stars received a warm welcome at their base in Ggaba after returning home victorious from the 5th Taifa International Woodball Championship held at Mount Kenya University in Nairobi.
The Ugandan team stormed to the top of the medal table, collecting an impressive 13 medals, six gold, four silver, and three bronze, in what turned out to be a historic outing for the Kampala University Woodball Stars.
With that impressive performance on their debut, the University management thought it wise to stage a hero’s welcome to the team and they were received by the University top management guided by Dr. Wardah M. Rajab-Gyagenda, office of the Vice chancellor which was represented by Farouk Shakur Wahab- Head Operations, Dean of Students Augustine Mugalu and the Sports management headed by Martha Soigi.
“I am so excited about the victory, these guys brought from Kenya, I don’t take this for granted, we are not champions at the university level but internationally and this victory means a lot to Kampala University sports department, Woodball is a fresh discipline here, it started last year, right now we are winning international championships, it’s very amazing and we’re not taking it for granted.” Sports tutor Kampala University, Martha Soigi.
Lillian Zawedde, the team’s head coach, thanked her bosses for giving her team finances and chance to represent the University.
“This is our first time to feature in an international championships, we really appreciate the efforts of our leaders at the university for the finances they rendered to us, the efforts from our sports tutor and the players because if they didn’t play well, the trophy would not be here.” Coach Lillian Zawedde said.
This is the second time in a space of one year, Kampala University is winning medals in Kenya, the first one come in December of 2024 at Maseno University when the finished as the Overall Woodball winners in the East Africa University games.
