Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah Granted Bail, Court Reveals Case Hearing Date
The Uganda Netball Federation president Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah finally the Anti Corruption Court granted her bail on a 7 million shillings cash.
Yesterday, Kityo was presented before Anti Corruption Court in Kampala on charges of Fraudulent False Accounting contrary to section 23(b) of the Anti Corruption Act 2009 as amended.
Uganda is pinning Babirye that she has never properly accounted for the 186,374,110/- given to her federation [Uganda Netball Federation] for Pent Series and the Africa Netball championship held in November 2021 in Namibia.
Babirye through her Lawyers, Joseph Luzige and Joshua Byamazima applied for the bail but was denied basing on the Learned State Attorney Gloria Nzikuru who asked for time to verify the documents presented by the defendant’s sureties.
Today at 10am she was brought back before the court and her application was accepted by His Worship Opit Christopher who granted her a cash bail of 7 million shillings.
“We’re grateful that our client has been released on bail after have been remanded yesterday for verification of documents by my learned sister, the State Attorney, so today court has granted her cash bail of 7m shillings and also at the same time requested to deposit her passport which we shall do in court, the condition was we immediately deposit the passport in court but unfortunately our client in anticipation of traveling, had submitted her at the British High commission for renewal of her visa so we requested the court to review that order so that we produce the passport in two weeks time, we also availed court a copy of the certificate of title in her name to guarantee that she will be coming back to attend trial.
We are very confident that our client will appear to attend trials because we know the charges which has been slapped on her have already been determined and investigated by various government agencies like the IGG, the Auditor General, so we are not worried about that we shall get our time within the provisions of law.” Says Lawyer Joseph Luzige.
According to His Worship Opit Christopher, the court will sit again about the case on 6th December 2023.
