‘Goodbye to Kicuba Mindset’, FUFA Hands Professional Contract to SA Tactician as Crested Cranes Head Coach

For the first time in history of Women football in Uganda, the National team the Crested Cranes got a professional contracted head coach.

The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has on Wednesday morning at the FA Complex at Mengo appointed former South Africa Football Association Girls Soccer Academy head coach and CAF Instructor, Sheryl Botes as the new Crested Cranes head Coach.

“We received over 40 applications, they were five Ugandans. We did an analysis and it has taken us time to get an experienced and qualified coach in women football on the continent and in the world.” Said Magogo during the unveiling ceremony at FUFA.

The South African joins in on a three-year employment contract, that will run at least until 2026, she came as a direct replacement for Charles Ayieokh who has been in charge of the team as interim coach.

Since it first appeared in 2000 Women Africa Nation’s Cup, Crested Cranes never had a contracted head coach.

The likes of Magida Nantanda, Faridah Bulega, George Lutalo, Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, Charles Ayieokh, all have been at the team as appointed coaches but with not clear employment contracts.

The CAF instructor will be overseeing all the national teams and she is going to work with more other two coaches from South Africa, the goal keeping coach and a nutrition scientist.
