FWSL: Asubo-Gafford Ladies Enjoying Fresh Breeze in White Zone, Beat Lady Doves to Go Above Red Line

Consistency pays and Asubo-Gafford Ladies started to enjoy they fruits of their brilliant form of the second round of FUFA Women’s Super League.

For the first time since they played their first game in Super League, Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC get out of the relegation zone after beating Lady Doves FC 3-2 in an epic encounter honored at Kampala Quality Ground on Sunday morning.

Fatuma Nakasumba, speed merchant Kamiyat Naigaga and an own goal from Florence Nazizi won Asubo-Gafford Ladies three important points, while those for Lady Doves came from Diana Nantongo and substitute, Joweria Nagadya.

Only 15 minutes into the game, Lady Doves had a chance to have an early lead but their penalty awarded to them by the centre referee Atuheirwe Joyce, was clearly saved by Olga Lukia, Asubo’s on form custodian, it was hard luck to Norah Alupo who failed to convert from the spot kick..

Speed merchant, Kamiyat Naigaga was fouled near the box area and Nakasumba Fatuma, converted the free kick to hand Asubo a lead in the 32nd minute of first half. The goal has been the second for Nakasumba in the league through free kick and the fourth in all competitions.

With three minutes to halftime break, former Asubo-Gafford Ladies defender, Diana Nantongo from the centre leveled the matters with a spectacular free kick.

In the 57th minute, Fatuma Nakasumba won another free kick at the centre line, in the process of clearing the ball out of danger, Florence Nazizi connected into her own net for Asubo to reclaim it’s lead and with an assist from Madinah Nakaayi, Kamiyat Naigaga made it 3-1 in the  65th minute, the intelligent forward put the ball far lower post where Rose Bamaniriza could not save. 

The youthful forward in her first season in super league, so far scored three goals in four played games.

Sub, Joweria Nagadya pulled the second for Doves with a thunderbolt strike in the 86th minute but Asubo contained to the last and won their fourth consecutive game in second round.

“It has been a hard game as you saw it, when two teams fighting relegation meet, expect that game to be hard, but the good thing, we got an early goal as we planned because we knew that it’s going to be hard game, they have been coming from a goal down and we finally won it.” Says Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC tactician Rogers Nkugwa.

He added “no our focus now is on St Noa, the women cup game we have on Saturday, we shall think of Kawempe after this game, because we handle game per game.” 

The win moved Asubo to 7th position now with 16 points in 15 games.

The loss pushed Lady Doves to the bottom of the table, remained on 14 points.
