Futsal: Increase Women Involvement, Youth Futsal Development Dominate FAU AGM
Increasing on the number of women in Futsal, having U12 and primary schools leagues dominated the second Annual General Assembly of Futsal Association of Uganda held on Friday, 26th August, 2022 at Kenendia Hotel-Kampala.
The second Association’s Annual General Assembly was graced by Uganda Youth Football Association chairperson, Roberts Kiwanuka, FUFA Deputy CEO, Bakiika Samuel and Deo Mutabaazi the Beach Soccer chairperson.
The AGM was chaired by Association chairperson, Hamza Jjunju and they discussed on a number of development issues including approving proposals submitted in by the members.
The AGM approved the proposal that was calling for a 50% representation in the decision making body (AGM) and starting next Assembly, each member will be represented by two delegates but one must be a woman as one of the ways through which women will be empowered in their game that is under development in the country.
“There are amendment that were made and all members approved it that they should be represented 50% men and 50% women, the purpose is to bring ladies closer so that again we task them to go down there and develop girl futsal” said FAU Chairperson Hamza Jjunju after the assembly.
The Association is also looking at having U12 league for girls and boys, not forgetting the primary schools and Jjunju revealed that they are working hand in hand with the Uganda Youth Football Association to have the league that will help them develop the talent and even prepare a team that will represent Uganda in 2026 Futsal Junior championship.
“For Juniors we are majorly looking at 12 years and below, both girls and boys and focusing on engaging primary schools and academies, so with academies we are working with UYFA to have a league to be launched in January 2023 with a gazetted calendar for both girls and boys and also the primaries to have a few schools that will take a risk to have a league.
The purpose of this, we believe that these 12 year old will be 17 by 2026, and by 17 years, we shall be having a team that will represent Uganda in the youth Olympic games which call for both girls and boys” he explained.
The Assembly also approved that the Futsal Super League starting next season will comprises of ten test from the previous eight they had.
Futsal for the year 2022/23 will run on the budget of 191 million shillings and they expect to get that from FUFA, their members and other sources.
In the same AGM, chairperson Jjunju reported to members that the Futsal national male team will be called Nile Cranes and FUFA EXCOM approved the name and the team will start have engagement soon before the 2024 CAF Futsal Nations Cup.
FAU is one of the FUFA interest groups that are growing at a high speed.
