CAF Zonal Qualifiers: ‘Born Unlucky’ CBE Much Ready for Next Edition Maybe, The Sharks Prepare for Final Against Simba Queens
She Corporate beat Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) 2-1 at the epic semifinal one honored at Azam Complex on Wednesday to become the first Uganda’s outfit to reach final of the CAF Women’s Champions league CECAFA zonal qualifiers.
The 2021/22 FUFA Super league Most Valuable Player, Phionah Nabbumba and new signing from Uganda Martyrs, Anitah Namata were on target for the sharks while lethal weapon, Loza Abera scored the only goal for CBE.
The Charles Ayiekoh coached side first got a lead in the 20th minute through Anitah Namata’s rebound, the versatile forward picked a ball in the space after Phionah Nabbumba’s effort hit to left pole. And the Sharks won the first stanza with a 1-0 lead but also with good ball display.
Loza Abera, CBE’s skipper leveled the matter in the 62nd minute with a classic press.
Phionah Nabumba then scored what proved to be the winner with a well taken freekick with 15 minutes to play.
Nabbumba curled in a beautiful free kick to restore the sharks lead in the 75th minute and the side held on to a deserved win.
It’s strong to note that CBE eliminated Uganda’s Lady Doves last season at this stage.
She Corporate booked a final berth with Simba Queens the side that beat them 2-0 in group stage game. To reach final, Simba Queens beat As Kigali 5-1 in the second semifinal on the day.
The champion on Saturday 27th August will represent CECAFA region in the second edition of CAF Women’s Champions League.
