FTWSL: Tonny Mawejje Poised to Take Charge of Zana-Based School’s Women’s Team

The Zana-based school, St. Noa Girls FC is on the verge of a major technical boost, with reports indicating that former Uganda Cranes midfield maestro Tonny Mawejje is set to be unveiled as head coach of their women’s football team before the week concludes.

The reigning Elite League champions, who represent the institution in the Finance Trust FUFA Women’s Super League, are preparing to hand Mawejje the reins following the departure of Jimmy Kintu Mwera. Mwera recently crossed to Cavalry FC, the newly promoted Startimes Uganda Premier League outfit based in Yumbe.

Mawejje arrives with a growing coaching résumé, fresh from his assistant coaching role at Wakiso Giants during the 2024/25 season under Steven Bengo. He also previously worked as deputy coach at Kampala Queens Women’s Club, gaining vital experience under the stewardship of Charles “Kadidi” Senyange.

With the Zana outfit having already stamped their authority in school-level women’s football and conquered the Elite League, Mawejje’s task will be to sustain the team’s dominance at the top level while nurturing the next generation of talent.

As a player, the 38-year-old enjoyed a decorated career, turning out for clubs such as Police FC, KCCA, and URA, while also plying his trade abroad. On the international stage, he was a reliable servant for the Uganda Cranes, amassing 83 caps and 8 goals over a decade-long spell, cementing his legacy as one of the country’s most influential midfielders.
