From Morogoro to Kololo: Nasser, Katumba, the Africa’s Rally Heroes Triumph at Fortebet Real Stars Awards

The September edition of the ForteBet Real Stars Sports Awards took center stage today at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo, shining a spotlight on Uganda’s finest sporting talents and honoring legendary figures who have shaped the nation’s athletic legacy.

In motorsport, the spotlight belonged to the MOIL Rally Team duo of Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba, who were crowned the month’s best following their historic victory at the 2025 African Rally Championship in Morogoro, Tanzania. The pair’s impressive performance, which sealed Uganda’s dominance on the continental stage, earned them the accolade ahead of fellow rally contenders Ronald Ssebuguzi and Julius Ssemambo.

In football, Vipers SC defender Hillary Mukundane claimed the award after a standout month that saw him score a vital away goal against African Stars of Namibia, helping the Venoms secure a 2–0 aggregate win to progress to the CAF Champions League second preliminary round. Mukundane beat stiff competition from teammate Allan Okello and SC Villa’s Ibrahim Kasinde.

The boxing category was headlined by Muzamir “King Kong” Kakande, who received recognition for his spectacular victory in the British Commonwealth Silver Super Welterweight title bout against Briton Kevin Reavell. Kakande sealed the win with a ninth-round stoppage, improving his professional record to 13 wins, one loss, and one draw. He was represented at the event by his wife, Aminah Kakande.

The ceremony also featured a Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to veteran weightlifter and two-time Olympian Ali Kavuma. Reflecting on his storied career, Kavuma applauded the resurgence of Ugandan weightlifting, citing rising athletes like Davis Niyoyita as symbols of hope. He expressed appreciation to the event’s sponsors and the media fraternity for their unwavering commitment to uplifting Ugandan sport.
