Fresh Dairy Games | Basketball: Kitende Rectifies Regional Errors, Defeats St Noa at Nationals to Defend the Title

St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende has successfully defended the national girls basketball title after beating their immediate rivals,St Noa girls on the climax of fresh Dairy Games 2024 held at Ndejje SS Luweero.
Mariam Namukwaya , the tournament’s Most Valuable Player raised the bars high for St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende, she scored 13 points adding on 10 rebounds as the best player of the match.
Daniella Nyamwezi was the second best scorer with 8 points while Amurat Kyalimpa was the best rebounder for Kitende with 16 rebounds.
St Mary’s never wanted to get back to the regional level embarrassment against Noa, when they lost with a difference of 18 baskets on Wakiso region final.
Resty Nanangwe who had 8 points and 14 rebounds was the best player for the losing side, following the shy off of their usual best player Zoe Atek.
In this years championship it was the reverse fixture having teams met at Wakiso Zone final last month seeing St Noa girls beating Kitende 67-49 forcing Kitende to drop one of the three trophies they won last year 2023 when they bagged the Zone, Nationals and East Africa trophies.
Kitende is only remaining with a chance of defending the East Africa trophy adding it to national trophy and they are also likely to rematch in August 2024.
In the Championship which has been on from 27th April climaxed with Nabisunsa Girls regaining their third place after beating Buddo SS in the classification match for the third position enabling them to finish behind St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende and St Noa girls School.
Individually Kitende’s Star player Mariam Namukwaya was the championship star after being named the most valuable player of the tournament.
The four teams that have reached Semifinals won the slots to represent Uganda at FEASSA games which will be hosted in Uganda at Bukedea Comprehensive and Amus College in Eastern Uganda this coming August of 2024.
Meanwhile,in basketball boys, Hope SS Bbira beat Buddo SS 34-29 on final to lift the boys basketball trophy.
