Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards: Who loves Best, Nominees for Month of February Out
The month of love was action packed with a number of activities in sports industry, like their norm is; Real Stars Sports Agency in conjunction with her partners in Fortebet, Canaan Investments and Jude Color Solutions are to award the best performers of February.
Love aside, the four disciplines that have nominees this time, it won’t be couple affair but the outstanding sole performer will walk away with the accolade and prize money tomorrow at Route 256 Restaurant Lugogo.
Football, Badminton, Rugby and Athletics are the four disciplines with competitors.
FOOTBALL NOMINEES
Najib Yiga (Vipers)- The young midfielder has been instrumental in Vipers midfield ever since Bobsi Byaruhanga picked an injury. He has managed to score two and created another in the five games played.
Nafian Alionzi (URA FC Goalkeeper)
The URA FC goalkeeper has been influential for the three victories they picked in February out of four games. He made several point blank saves in the four games he was in charge.
Yunus Ssentamu (Vipers)
The Vipers forward has scored four goals in five games played in the month of February. He was vital for Vipers to move top of the league standings.
ATHLETICS
Jacob Kiplimo,
Started his season by winning the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in Dubai sanctioned by World Athletics with a time of 57:56.
Halima Nakaayi,
Started this year with a bang, winning the 800m under 2 seconds at meeting de l’Eure of the World Athletics Indoor Tour 2022 (silver status), held at stade couvert Jesse Owens, Val-de-Reuil in France, crossing the line at 1:59.55 which was a World leading and a national record.
Nakaayi continued to shine in France when he finished second at meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais (Gold status) in Arena Stade Couvert, Liévin behind Jamaican Natoya Goule with a time of 1:58.58 which was a personal best and the national record.
Mercyline Chelangat,
Has put the bad season she had last year, to dominate the locally organized events here, Mercy won the women’s national cross country in Tororo, hitting a tape with 33:31 on clock beating 3000m Olympic steeplechase gold medalist Peruth Chemutai.
Chelangat didn’t rest, she charged for the just concluded Source of the Nile Half Marathon, crossing the line at 1:11: 52.
RUGBY
Innocent Gwokto – Heathens
Last month winner, Innocent Gwokto from table leaders Heathens returns, with no doubt, he is currently the best player in the national rugby league.
His two trys against title contenders Pirates, were enough to create a difference of 5 points for Heathens on top and that was a game dubbed as a title decider.
Joaquim Chisano – Heathens.
He has just joined the club this season from the rich Plascon Mongers, Heathens number 5 has played for the number as if he has been with this club for decades.
For the three games he has played for Heathens this month, he has completed their pack, He carries, defends and breaks the line. He also has two trys in his name.
Nelson Mandela – RAMS
The tower standing number 15 for the medical practitioners has kicked 18 points for Rams for the month of February including 9 that gave them a slim win of 9-7 against their land lords Impis.
The win helped Rams to cement their 8th position with 15 points.
BADMINTON
Husina Kobugabe – Played 8 games at Thomas and Uber All Africa Badminton Championship and winning 7 collecting 339 – 197 points.
She helped Uganda to finish second at the tournament, unfortunately, she fell short at Uganda International Badminton Challenge not beyond the second round,
Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi – Played 8 games, and winning 5 at the Thomas and Uber All Africa senior badminton championship, lead Uganda to the finals collecting 325 – 231 points.
Fadilah and Naluwooza paired together to bring bronze at home for Uganda after finishing at the semi-final at the concluded Uganda International.
She lost the singles in the first round.
Brian Kasirye – Finalist in singles at Thomas and Uber All Africa, losing the singles of the Uganda International at the first round.
