Sports legends especially Footballers been dying from their beds without any helping hand and the recent one to leave the earth shamefully was KCCA legend, Jimmy Kirunda.
Through their umbrella body, Fraternity of Legendary Football Players and Fans Uganda Limited, the former Football players are aiming at advocating for their colleagues who battle to get treatment for their illnesses to get free or low cost treatment especially from government hospitals.
The former KCCA FC, Uganda Cranes player and the current Proline FC director, Mujibu Kasule revealed that as Football Legends, they need to advocate for treatment to their senior players who are battling with serious illnesses which are expensive to treat.
Mujibu says, Football Legends did a lot to the nation, government giving them VIP cards/treatment is one of the easiest thing it can do.
“Our seniors find challenges in getting treatment, they have dangerous diseases which are hard and expensive to treat by themselves. ” Mujibu told media.
” These people were vital to this nation during their playing Time, we believe we can engage the government and give them VIP cards, such that these people don’t spend much time in lines and we believe, this is very easy for the government to do and it’s very important to us.”
” We are going to use all the avenues that we see can help the former players.” The CAF Instructor added after lecturing former players, there role in the development of the game.
This idea was taken seriously by the football Legends Executive Committee and the Association’s General Secretary, Daniel Ntale Kisekka said that they need such ideas and that’s why they are trying to bring every former player on board.
“We do come from different societies, that’s why we come together to solicit different ideas, Mujibu presented that idea, it’s new to us but we bought it. ” Daniel Ntale former Miracle FC and SC Villa said.
“Always we have been coming in during the postmortem, we have been sitting back, feeling small in society and yet we are very important, and many people want to work with us. On this issue, we are going to engage Ministry of health, office of the Speaker of Parliament because they can help if we reach at their offices. “
Meanwhile, today at Old Kampala Arena, the Football Legends held their first workshop since they introduced their rebranded platform.
The workshop that particularly aimed at educating former players their role in football industry and the main facilitator was Mujibu Kasule who asserted that former players have six roles in football. That is loving the game, teaching the game, leading the game, advocating for the game, administration of the game and investing in the game they understand better.
The Association president, Jackson Mayanja ‘Mia Mia’ says.
“We called all leaders of different zones and the turnup was very good as you can see almost every one is here, mainly we wanted these people to know their role in the development of the game. This is the activity that closed the year but next year we are to have many, and we ask more partners to join us because we are now speaking the same language. ” Jackson Mayanja.
