Finance Trust Bank Honours Kawempe’s Finest in November Showcase

Kawempe Muslim Ladies continued their dominance in Ugandan women’s football as star forward Agnes Nabukenya and head coach Ayubu Khalifa Kiyingi were crowned the Finance Trust Bank Player and Coach of the Month for November.

The duo received their accolades on Tuesday during a ceremony held at the Finance Trust Bank head office in Kampala, graced by the Bank’s Chief Operations Officer Sarah Gwokyalya.

Ayubu beat off stiff competition from Kampala Queens’ head coach Asefa Firew Hailegebreal to clinch the coaching gong, thanks to a flawless month in which he guided Kawempe Muslim to four wins in four matches, cementing their position at the top of the Finance Trust Women Super League table with 25 points, five ahead of their closest rivals. Asefa’s side managed three wins from four outings.

Speaking at the event, Gwokyalya applauded the media for their role in growing women’s football.

 “As a bank, we offered ourselves to support these games and work with the media and FUFA to give the sport the vibe it deserves. When the media provides publicity, more people fall in love with the game. We thank the media for walking this journey with us,” said Gwokyalya.

Ayubu expressed gratitude after receiving the accolade, emphasizing the collective effort behind his success.

 “This wasn’t a walk in the park. I have been in the race with many good coaches, so being singled out is a blessing. I thank Allah. This is teamwork — from the coaching staff to the disciplined players — and that is why we are succeeding,” Ayubu noted.

On the players’ side, last season’s MVP Agnes Nabukenya reclaimed the spotlight after scoring four goals and winning two Player of the Match awards in November. She beat her teammate Saidat Namwanje, who kept three clean sheets, and Kampala Queens forward Catherine Nagadya, who also notched four goals.

Nabukenya reaffirmed her ambitions for the season.

 “It’s all about hard work, teamwork, and listening to the coaches. My targets remain the same — to lead my team to the league trophy, become the top scorer, and defend my MVP title,” She said confidently.

The awards ceremony also recognized media excellence, with Sanyuka Prime’s Henry Gwase and Nimsport’s Nsereko Musoke Issa voted the best journalists of November. The pair will share UGX 500,000 courtesy of Finance Trust Bank.

This marks the eighth edition of the bank’s initiative to honour standout performers in the women’s game, a commitment that continues to boost visibility and motivation in Uganda’s women’s football landscape.
