Engineer Dr. Badru Kiggundu’s Appointment Signals Busitema University’s Growing Strength as a Science and Technology Powerhouse

Busitema University has taken a bold step towards strengthening its leadership in science, technology, and innovation following the appointment of Engineer Dr. Badru Kiggundu as its third Chancellor. The appointment, made by H.E. Gen. Yoweri Museveni, underscores the university’s growing reputation as Uganda’s premier centre for science based education and research.
Dr. Kiggundu is widely respected for his engineering expertise, public service record, and leadership in major national development projects will be installed on November 28, 2025, at Busitema University’s main campus. Immediately after his installation, he will preside over the 16th Graduation Ceremony, marking the beginning of his new role.
He has served in several high-level national roles, including such as Chairperson, Electoral Commission of Uganda (2002–2016), Chairperson, Presidential Select Committee for Isimba & Karuma Hydroelectric Power Stations and Board Chairperson, National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC)
His engineering background and hands-on experience with large-scale infrastructure projects position him to champion Busitema University’s next phase of growth particularly in applied sciences, research innovation, and technology driven solutions for national development.
Dr. Kiggundu’s appointment is widely viewed as a strategic move to bolster Busitema University’s capability and visibility as a science-focused institution. His national stature, technical knowledge, and international networks are expected to elevate the university’s profile in various areas.
Advancing science and engineering programs as his background offers strong leadership for laboratories, engineering research hubs, and science driven curriculum development and driving innovation with industrial partnerships on his experience in national utilities, power generation, and infrastructure, he brings vital links to industries central to scientific advancement.
His role will help attract top researchers, strengthen graduate programs, and increase the university’s contribution to scientific knowledge that aligns with Uganda’s long-term strategic goals in energy, water, infrastructure, and technological advancement.
With his installation set for November 28, Busitema University prepares not just to welcome a new Chancellor, but to embark on a strengthened path toward scientific excellence, national relevance, and global competitiveness and its potential to shape Uganda’s future scientists, innovators, engineers, and problem-solvers.
