By Kayiira Jackson
The 20th Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games are set to take on a fresh and exciting twist this year with the introduction of disc golf and the pool table category, two new disciplines that will debut when the games kick off at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Main Campus in Mukono from December 18th to 23rd, 2025.
The inclusion of the new sports marks a bold expansion of the AUUS portfolio, reflecting growing diversity in students’ sporting interests and offering fresh competitive opportunities for universities looking to broaden their medal prospects. Officials say the move is part of AUUS’ long-term strategy to modernize the games and increase participation across disciplines that are gaining traction globally.

Over 21 Universities Expected
More than 21 universities have already confirmed participation in the six-day tournament, which will feature a total of 18 disciplines. Established crowd favorites—such as football, basketball, rugby, volleyball, netball, and athletics—will run alongside the new additions, making this one of the most comprehensive editions in the competition’s history.
UCU Polishing Final Touches

As the host university, UCU is leaving nothing to chance. The institution, which has hosted the games three times before—in 2007, 2013, and 2023—is finalizing major facility upgrades ahead of the event. Renovations on sports grounds, training arenas, and athlete accommodation blocks are nearing completion, with the university investing heavily to ensure a smooth and world-class experience for all participants.
With modernized courts, refreshed pitches, and improved residential spaces, UCU aims to set a new benchmark for university sports hosting in Uganda.
Ndejje Eyeing Title Defense
Reigning champions Ndejje University are expected to face fierce competition as they return to defend their crown. Traditional rivals—including hosts UCU and Kampala University—are preparing strong squads, raising anticipation for intense battles across multiple disciplines.
The addition of disc golf and pool table is also expected to shake up the medal table, offering new avenues for universities to shine.
Countdown to a Historic Edition
As excitement builds ahead of December 18th, the 2025 AUUS Games are shaping up to be a thrilling blend of tradition and innovation. For UCU, hosting the event for a record fourth time is both a moment of pride and a chance to showcase excellence in sports management, hospitality, and student athletics.
