Cricket: UCA awake as Others Still in Slumber, 26 Summoned for World Cup Qualifiers
After president of Uganda give green light to sports activities, U19 Cricket National team head coach, Ivan Thawithemwira immediately summoned a provisional squad of 26 players from different parts of the country to start preparations for the Qualifiers.
Uganda is preparing for the 2022 U19 World Cup in Westindies, the qualifiers that were scheduled to be hosted by Nigeria, however, have been moved to Rwanda due to COVID-19 Pandemic disturbance.
The team had started preparations under the guidance of head coach Ivan Thawithemwira and his assistant Robinson Turinawe before sports was halted due to the high rising number of Covid cases in the country.
The players have been selected from all over the country and the team will have atleast a month of training before they head out to Kigali.
All the players will under go mandatory Covid tests before they resume training on Wednesday this week.
The squad will be cut down to 18 players after a month of training.
The qualifiers will be held from September 28th to 7th October. in Kigali Rwanda.
Uganda will be battling for the single world cup slot to the World Cup against Rwanda, Tanzania, Nigeria and Namibia.
