CAF CC: ‘Kasasiro’ Boys Out’, Win Not Enough to Eject Abu Salim

Despite a 3-2 win in the return leg on Saturday evening at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende, KCCA FC journey of the second Preliminary Round of CAF Confederation Cup came to an end.

Usama Arafat and Muhamed Shaban’s goals were not enough for KCCA FC to progress as they conceded 2 goals and Abu Salim advanced to next level with a  4-5 aggregate win.

Shaban Muhamed broke the deadlock 19 minutes inside first half to give the hosts hope of advancing to the next round.

The first half ended 1-0 in favor of KCCA FC making 2-3 on aggregate and Traguil’s men had to score another unanswerable goal in the last stanza of the game to progress.

The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 69th minutes and it was well taken, leaving a big task for KCCA FC who needed two more goals to force it to extra-time.

In the last 7 minutes of the game, KCCA FC scored two goals through Usama Arafat but the visitors also netted one as the Kasasiro boys won the game 3-2.

However, the win wasn’t enough to see them through as the Libya’s side Abu Salim advanced on 4-5 aggregate.

After the game, KCCA FC head coach Sergio Daniel Traguil, blamed his side for losing the first leg with 2 goal margin.

“We played a team with experienced players compared to us who are building a young squad. But that shouldn’t be the excuse but blame ourselves for making stupid errors in the first leg that cost us.” Said Disappointed Traguil.

KCCA FC’s exit in the CAF Confederation Cup, means that all Uganda’s representatives in CAF tournaments this year, are out.

Vipers SC were eliminated from CAF Champions League Preliminary Round by Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy on 2-3 aggregate.

KCCA FC will now focus on the league as they’ll be hosting Maroons FC on Tuesday 3rd October at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
