Boxing: Shadir Musa, Kavuma Officially Turn Pro, Vow to Claim All What Brings to Them
The two prominent and current Olympians from boxing discipline, Middle weight champion, Shadir Musa Bwogi and Kavuma David aka De Animal have officially moved a step ahead and turned pro from amateur boxing.
The two represented Uganda in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games held in Japan though they didn’t secure any medal in the tournament.
While launching his new Professional Boxing Promotion company [12 Sports Round Promotions], Stephen Ssembuya unveiled three Olympians to whom he thinks will be the face of professional boxing in Uganda, East Africa and the continent at large.
At Phillip Omondi Stadium Lugogo where the event was held, Ssembuya who once hinted on leading amateur boxing in Uganda, revealed that they are privileged to sign the best boxers in the region and their aim is to promote them to one day become world champions.
“We have signed the best boxers in the region, in Shadir Musa, David Kavuma Ssemujju , Cathrine Nanziri and others, we want to push them as much as we can to see that one day, they become world champions. ” Stephen Ssembuya said to the press today.
The 12 Sports Round Promotions is a new promotion company in field of boxing but they believe they can do better to promote the game especially at professional level as Stephen highlights.
“Signing three Olympians and other good boxers in the region is a privilege to us as a company because they accepted to work with us, that means, they saw importance in us. But it’s not only good to us but also the Ugandans, they are going to get a buffet in professional boxing, the guys have different talents, different styles of play and they are really to entertain us and we are going to see a great transition from amateur to pro. ” He added.
While addressing media, the former middle Weight and Walter weight champion, Shadir Musa Bwogi revealed why he turned pro.
“The main aim why I turned pro is; I want to keep my legacy, and honor, secondly, professional boxing is inactive, it hurts, we think it would be the vibrant sport in Uganda and the top in making money because it does in the whole world. But the pro in Uganda had no good boxers who can give value an the milage it deserves, we have been the best in Amateur, so we are bringing the same to professional. We want to see that transition, seeing fans also coming to pro and see what is taking place this side. We have com to claim what belongs to us, we came to make money. ” Confident Bwogi Said.
However, the only female Uganda Olympian, Cathrine Nanziri distanced from coming pro of yet though she has it in mind, she is currently targeting commonwealth games.
“I want to put this clear, I haven’t fully turned pro because I am still under A & B, they haven’t officially announced that have left them, I came to fight to be active because it has been a while since Tokyo games, I am preparing for Commonwealth Games. ” Said Nanziri before adding…” But it’s in my dream to turn pro, I take boxing as a business, none wants to take a punch for free, but I wanted to first build a simple profile in amateur. “
The promotion will have it’s first sanctioned fight event on 1st April 2022 at Phillip Omondi Stadium with over ten fights and that one of Shadir Musa Bwogi and Mugarura Herbert will be the main fight.
