Bika Football: Group Stage Action Kicks off, Goals Flood on Day One
The 2023 Bika By’Abaganda Football tournament group stage action kicked off on Monday and a number of goals flow on opening day.
Like it was in preliminary round, the games were held on four grounds, that’s Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, Kawanda SS, Buddo SS and Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
25 goals were scored on day one from eight played games on Monday.
At Kawanda SS, two games were held and the 10 man Ente clan fell in gaps of Mutima Omusagi and the game ended 2-1, with KCCA ‘s Saidi Mayanja and Yusuf Mukasa scoring for Mutima, the only goal for Ente clan came in the 70th minute while Arahab Kakooza converting from the spot kick.
Henry Katongole got the first red card at this stage following a dangerous foul committed on Mayanja Ivan in the 68th minute of the game. The red came as a second booking.
Mpindi of Brian Majwega came from two goals down to thump Kinyomo 5-3 after the final score.
Kinyomo through Mukasa Francis got a lead in the 10th minute before doubling it in the 23rd minute of the enticing encounter. But Mbowa Paul Patrick found a consolation goal four minutes later for first stanza to end 2-1 in favor of Kinyomo.
Four minutes into second half, Kinyomo’s defender, Kagogwe Apollo connected into his own goal while trying to clear the deadly ball released by Brian Majwega, Ssaka Sharif separated the tie in the 54th minute strike to make it 3-2 in favor of Mpindi. Kitenda Ibra scroed the 4th in the 63rd minute before Mukasa Francis came in to complete his hat trick.
While Kinyomo were trying to look for a leveler before the final whistle, their defender, Lukoba Jacob failed to clear away Brian Majwega corner kick and also connected the ball in his net two minutes past 90 minutes to make it 5-3 in Mpindi’s favor.
From other grounds, two time champions, Mbogo clan came from a goal down to beat Kkobe 2-1 at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, both goals for Mbogo were scored by Nelson Ssenkatuuka while Allan Kayiwa scored the only one for Kkobe.
Sula Matovu Maluda scored the only goal that gave Ngabi Nsamba victory against Ffumbe while and Omutima Omusagi shared spoils at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium with goalless score, at the same ground, Ngeye and Ngo squared at one goal each, Ezekiel Katende scored for Lugave and Joseph Ssemujju did it for Ngo.
Ngoonge beat Musu 2-1, Jibril Nsimbe netted for Musu while Edward Nkaluboa d Richard Ssonko scored for Ngoonge.
It was a five goal thriller between Nsenene and Nvuma. Edward Masembe, Moses Kalanzi and Denis Kalanzi appeared on score sheet for Nsenene while Davis Kasirye and Christopher Kawaggu scored the two goals for Nvuma.
The action will return tomorrow, Wednesday at the four grounds.
