Bika By’Abaganda Netball: Ffumbe Thumps Ntalaganya, Bambejja ‘Eat’ Nsenene As Mmamba Namakaka Silence Defending Champions
The Bika Bya Baganda Netball tournament, 2022 edition officially threw off on Saturday at St Lawrence University Playground with 20 matches at held at four courts.
The official opening at St Lawrence University was graced by Omutaka Muyingo (head Musu clan), Omulangira Nakibinge Joe Jjuuko, the second deputy chairperson Balangira clan, Prince Golooba Wilberforce and Princess Mpologoma Ntale (Lubuga wa Muteesa II).
Ffumbe who started at a low note with a 23-43 defeat against Entei bounced back stronger in their second game of the day and angrily hammered the youthful Ntalaganya clan by 108-10 to become the first clan this year to register a win of triple digits. Ffumbe are in group C with Mmamba Kakoboza, Lugave, Musu, Ntalaganya, Ffumbe, Ente, Ngabi Nyunga but on the day Mmamba Kakoboza didn’t show up.
In the same group Ngabi Nyunga lost to Ente 23-51 and Lugave beat Musu 54-26.
The two close contest fixtures on the day was the encounter between defending champions, Nyonyi Nyange and Mmamba Namakaka, the two sides had a number of super league players, the likes of Racheal Nanyonga, Florence Nanyonga, Namuwaya Barbra, Namutebi Rose, Nankya Moureen Winfred and others which made the game too tight and beauty to watch. At the end of the game, Mmamba Namakaka won it by two, following a 49-47 final score.
The other end to end encounter was the game between Omutima Omusaji and Engo clan, Engo won this game by one after a 40-39 final score. The result tells it all how tight was the game. This was the first win for Ngo but the second game in group A, they lost their opening fixture 26-25 against Mbwa.
Bambejja was another side tht embarrassed Ensenene, by 63-27.
Mbogo clan also secured a win in their last fixture of the day, they beat Ngaali clan by 49-36, they lost the first game against Ngabi Nsamba 46-36.
The day two of this tournament will come on Sunday 24th July 2022 at the same venue.
