Badminton: Podium Finish Is What Team Uganda Promises, All Africa Senior Championship Officially Launched

Team Uganda promised only podium finish in the forthcoming Continental Badminton event the pearl of Africa is hosting this month.

Uganda Badminton Association, was the chosen Association to host the 2021 All Africa Senior Badminton Championship and today at Cupper Chimney Lugogo, the tourney has been officially launched by the National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary Technical, David Katende who assured the organizers about the readiness of the government to support the event.

“We can’t take the chance we got for granted, many countries would have organized this event but it’s we with it. I want to thank the Organizing team for this event. As government we want to ensure the countries that are coming here that Uganda is as peaceful as it has always been.” David Katende said.

” To team Uganda, you have been doing it well outside, now when you at home, you cant fail to make us Pride, as Government and Council, we are ready to support you and t see that the event move on well.“

This tournament was supposed to be hosted by South Africa last year but due to COVID-19, Uganda gotten a chance to host the tournament, it’s of both team and individual events slated for between 21st to 28th October 2021 at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Husna Kobugabe, Uganda’s seed two is optimistic that they can finish on Podium.

“This time we trained together for a while, learnt ourselves, we expect to perform well and it’s the podium finish we are working for this time.” 

“This tournament is very important to us, and as team uganda we have worked together for a while, I think we can get a gold medal and being at home is an advantage to us. As a player I want to collect enough points for Commonwealth and Olympics, so I have to work more harder in my singles.” Said Mable Irene Namakoye.

William Kabindi, Team’s tactician said that this time round his team has been together and a lot is expecting from them.

According to organizers, sixteen nations are to take part in this tournament.
