Babirye Kityo Has No Case to Answer, I was Wrong – Sarah Wamala Confirms to Court About the False Pretence Case

On 16th May 2023, the nation landed on shocking news of Uganda Netball President Sarah Babirye Kityo being remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of soliciting money on false pretence.

She spent a night and some hours in Luzira before presented to court for bail hearing to which she got from Buganda road Magistrate Court in Kampala after pledging innocent of any case pressed against her.

Today was the returning date to hear the case before the same court that is under Magistrate Ciena Owomugisha.

The good news for Netball community in Uganda, their president Hon. Sarah Babirye Kityo left the court scot-free after the lady filed the case against her asked the court to dump the case since she found out that Babirye was not anywhere near those who took her money in the guise of taking her two kids to America for greener pastures.

Sarah Wamala, the lady who took Babirye to court also confirmed to this website after the Court session.

“After keen investigation of the issues, we found out that the lady [Hon. Kityo Sarah] never received my money, it was the She Cranes Fans Association that received the money.” Sarah Wamala said before adding.

“So I told the judge to drop the case and I sort my issues with the Association out of court. So Sarah is innocent about this , I have forgiven her a d she has also did the same.” 

“The Association told my lawyers that they will give back my money since they received it and offer a receipt to Lukwago who registered with them, so please leave that She Cranes president alone, she has no problem.” Sarah Wamala told this website after the Court session.

Babirye, they lady who has changed the face of Uganda Netball in the space of two years, she told this website that it’s only people in sports sector are jealous of the success and the face she has given to the game of Netball she found in shamble.

The former youth MP asserted that she has no issue with the two ladies claimed that they gave her money and said that she is now trying to clean her name that was tarnished by the useless accusations.

“You have heard the lady in her words, she has confirmed that I have never received her money, I am Uganda Netball federation president, not a Fans Association leader, not even hold any position in that association.” She revealed.

“Some people are just politicking, they are jealous of our success (Netball), that’s why they are trying all sorts of avenues to she that they pull us down, they tarnish our names so that we look bad before the public and the world.” 

This is not the first time Babirye is being put in the corner, she she took over in June 2021 as the UNF president, she has been going through hard fights with the sports top leaders in Uganda.

For starters, the former president of the game, Mrs. Susan Anek first refused to hand over the office to the new executive and the WhatsApp group they formed to settle the issues with the World Netball Development officer on the continent, Joan Smith and Africa Netball President Cecilia Molokwane, Anek also told the Africa president that Babirye and her team will be soon out of the office.

The indicator that they never wanted Babirye to lead the game. Since then, she has been fighting war after war and she was also asked to step aside for a period of three months which are ending on 21st July 2023.

Despite all the challenges, Babirye’s regime has lifted the game from shamble and it’s now a vibrant sport in Uganda that came more popular in only two years of her reign.

The national team She Cranes, the fans added it another name of the Dancing Queens managed to beat the World’s number one, Australia, Jamaica in fast five and they also beat South Africa in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth games and finished fifth, the best in the history of Uganda’s Netball.

In her regime, there were first ever regional tours that promoted the game to the common person in all the parts of the country and the first of it’s kind in the game of netball.

Not forgetting the street Netball that pulled masses in Arua.

Babirye celebrated two years of office yesterday Monday and she believes less as been done compared to the plans she has got the game.
