Ntenjeru South Legislator Elected General Secretary of Buganda Parliamentary Caucus

The newly elected and sworn-in legislator representing the people of Ntenjeru South in the 11th Parliament, Hon. Patrick Kayongo Nsamba elected the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus General Secretary.

The members of Parliament from Buganda region convened today, Wednesday and elected their leaders for the next five years, that is between 2021-2026.

Nsanja who also the general Secretary of the most prestigious football tournament in Uganda Masaza Cup, was elected unopposed in the position.

Since National Unity Platform is the party with most legislators in Buganda, the most positions were taken by its its members.

This Caucus that aims at fronting issues pertaining Buganda in Parliament, elected Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi as their chairman and he will be deputized by Buikwe South legislator from Democratic Party, Dr. Michael Lulume Bayigga.

National Resistance Movement (NRM) pulled out of the race for Buganda Parliamentary Caucus Chairperson ship.

NRM alleged that National Unity Platform had ring fenced all the key positions and wanted them to simply participate.

Opposition in the Parliament had reached a consensus to give NRM the Vice Chairperson position while NUP takes the Chair, but NRM rejected the offer.

All the candidates for the 10 Positions won unopposed.

NUP has 55 MPs, NRM 46 MPs, FDC has three, and DP with seven MPs.

Positions for the Buganda Caucus in Parliament include; Chairperson, Vice chairperson, Secretary for Publicity, Secretary for Mobilization, Welfare, External Relations, Cabinet Affairs and Cultural Affairs secretaries.

Vice Chairperson: Dr. Lulume Bayigga Michael Phillip (Buikwe South), DP

General Secretary: Patrick Nsanja Kayongo (Ntenjeru North), Independent

Treasurer: David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga (Busujjj), NUP

Publicity Secretary:Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa (Mityana District woman Mp), NUP

Secretary for Mobilization: Yusuf Nsibambi-Mawokota South), FDC

Secretary for Welfare and Development: Fred Kayondo (Mukono South), DP

Secretary for External Relations: Dr. Christine Ndiwalana (Bukomansimbi North), NUP

Secretary for Cultural Affairs: Denis Ssekabira (Katikamu North), NUP

Secretary for Cabinet Affairs: Hon Nabukeera Hanifah Woman MP Mukono District
