Women Football: Uganda Martyrs Humble She Corporate in a Build Up Match
With less than three weeks to the commence of 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League tourney to be held at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru, Clubs continues to test their guns in sequence build up games.
On Tuesday, at Martyrs Playground in Lubaga, the home side Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women Football Club comfortably beat the visitors, She Corporate 2-0 in a Build up Match.
Nakacwa Spenser, was on target twice when the Rogers Nkugwa girls lecture the campusers how football is played.
The speedy winger, gave the hosts a leader after 22 minutes of the game, thanks to Gloria Namugerwa’s well taken free kick, 30 yards from the goal line.
With six minutes to half time break, Spenser returned with a near post strike that came from a well constructed move. On this goal the skipper, Nakasi Latifa released her.
“We are prepared as a team, but I also do my personal training to add on what coach give us, today I scored a brace and I expect to perform better at Njeru, because in most cases what you do in training is what manipulates in the serious match” said Spenser.
In the opening minutes of both halves, Zzinda Ali’s girls had all chances to damages the secondary School girls but they we too blunt before the goal, not forgetting three one on one situations the Corporate’s Nabbumba Phionah had on the day but failed to convert any.
Zzinda Ali said that his team losing a friendly match doesn’t mean that they are weak, but every coach go in a Build up game when he wants to test some tactics.
“True we missed a number of chances, but the loss in friendly doesn’t mean that you are weak, sometimes we go in a Build up Match to test some tactics, for instance I might come to test my back line, midfield or striking, so these friendlies help us to shape the squad.” Zzinda Ali told this website after the game.
About the tournament in Njeru, Zzinda says that he can’t predict whether he can win it or not because, tournaments are full of surprises, and there is covid testing, he might find out when all his team is positive.
“Currently I can’t say that we are going to win the title or not because tournaments are full of surprises, and this one is very tricky, we going to first test for COVID-19, what if they find all my players positive, how do you expect me to win the title?” He noted.
Rogers Nkugwa says that being their first build up Match, they did not perform well, saying if She Corporate was very serious, they would have punished them.
“This has been our first build up Match since we started training, we didn’t play well, Corporate pressed us especially in the second half and if they were very sharp they would have punished us, because they got a lot of chances. We are going to have more friendlies before setting off to Njeru to see that we correct our mistakes.” Said Nkugwa.
The tournament at Njeru Kicksoff on 19th April 2021, Uganda Martyrs is in Group One with Makerere University, Tooro Queens, Kawempe Muslim and Kampala Queens while She Corporate is with Isra Soccer Academy, Olila High, UCU and Lady Doves in group Two.
