Mukono Kings moved within one victory of securing qualification for the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games after completing a flawless group-stage campaign in the boys’ beach soccer competition at the ongoing 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games II in Gulu City.

The Mukono-based side finished top of Group B with a perfect nine points following a commanding 9-0 victory over Paris Palais on Sunday afternoon.

The two finalists in the competition will qualify to represent Uganda at the FEASSA Games, scheduled to take place in Morogoro, Tanzania, from August 12 to 23, 2026.

By topping their group, Mukono Kings also earned a favourable semi-final draw, avoiding defending champions Standard High School Zzana, who also completed Group A with a maximum nine points.

Speaking after the match, Mukono Kings head coach Shafiq Mudholo expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance but insisted that the main objective is yet to be achieved.

“Our first target was to finish top of the group because it gives us a better route in the knockout stage. We have achieved that, but the bigger mission is to qualify for the FEASSA Games in Morogoro. The boys have shown discipline, teamwork and hunger, but we know the toughest matches are still ahead,” Mudholo said.

Mukono Kings dominated proceedings from the opening whistle, with Sudiki Buluma leading the charge by scoring a hat-trick. Eric Wanyama and Maliki Makumbi each added a brace, while Lawrence Kintu and Tesloach Gatlau Deng also found the back of the net to complete the emphatic victory.

Interestingly, Mukono Kings travelled to Gulu with only their boys’ team despite being the reigning East African girls’ beach soccer champions. Their girls’ beach soccer team, as well as last year’s national futsal champions, are absent from this year’s Ball Games II.

In Group A, defending champions Standard High School Zzana maintained their perfect record with a 7-3 victory over Mayanga Seed Secondary School.

John Byaruhanga starred with a hat-trick, while Hassan Alinda scored twice. Latifu Nakibinge and Pastori Mucunguzi added a goal each. Blessed Akampwera netted a brace for Mayanga Seed before Prince Ahereza scored their third goal.

Elsewhere, Kigezi High School edged St Lawrence Crown City 5-4 in a thrilling encounter, while Ntare School defeated Paris Palais 4-2.

Girls’ Competition

In the girls’ category, defending champions Standard High School Zzana continued their impressive form with two victories on the day. They first defeated Tororo Girls School 10-4 before overcoming hosts Sacred Heart Secondary School 5-3 to strengthen their push for another national title and a place at the FEASSA Games.
