Bugweri RDC Wants Journalists to be Vaccinated As District Commences COVID-19 Vaccination Exercise

Bugweri: The Bugweri District RDC, Richard Gulume advocated for journalists especially in his District to be among those who are going to get vaccinated first for COVID-19.

The Residential District Commissioner says that Journalists interact with many people like the security, teachers and Medical personnel do, so it’s wise for them to be vaccinated to, in pursuit to protect their lives towards the deadly disease.

“The vaccines, the district received will cater for frontline works like Medical workers, security personnel and teachers, then the rest the government will cater for them at a later stage, but if possible I would like also journalists to be vaccinated because I see they interact with many people and yet they are vital people, their lives need to be protected.” RDC Richard Gulume noted when launching the vaccination exercise in Bugweri District today at Buseesa Health Centre.

The District received 2390 doses and they are to cover the security, medical workers, teachers and administrators at the district and RDC advised locals not to go to hospitals asking for COVID-19 vaccine at least for this moment.

Dr. Muwereza Peter, the District Health Officer, revealed that the exercise launched today, will be expanded to four more Health Centres where the frontline workers will get their vaccine and these include; Lubira, Igombe, Makuutu and Busembatya Medical centres.

However, in his submission, Dr. Muwereza said that it’s only those people who are of Bugweri origin, work from locality and those with National Identification Cards will be eligible to receive a jab.

The official vaccination exercise in Uganda rolled off on 10th March 2021 at Mulago hospital Kampala.
