Ndejje, Kumi Complete Quarterfinal Line-Up in Pepsi University Football League

Ndejje University and Kumi University have secured the final slots in the quarterfinals of the Pepsi University Football League following the climax of the group stage played on Thursday.

At the Arena of Vision in Ndejje, the hosts edged Makerere University 2-1 in a decisive Group E encounter to seal qualification for the second consecutive season.

Ndejje University took the lead in the 37th minute through Olupot Joel, who calmly found the back of the net to give the home side a first-half advantage.

Makerere University responded seven minutes into the second half when Male Musa converted from a free kick. The goal sparked controversy, with Ndejje players and fans insisting the ball had not crossed the line, but the referee upheld the decision.

The hosts, however, restored their lead in the 71st minute through Clement Ebasu, whose powerful header proved to be the winner and secured all three points for Ndejje.

In the other Group E fixture, Kumi University registered a narrow 1-0 victory over King Ceasor University. The result marked their second home win and third victory of the campaign.

The win saw Kumi University move to 11 points, level with Ndejje University, as both sides advanced to the quarterfinals from the group. It is a historic achievement for Kumi, who qualify for the knockout stage for the first time.

The two teams join Kampala University, St Lawrence University, Uganda Martyrs University, Bugema University, Muteesa I Royal University, and YMCA Comprehensive in the last eight.

The quarterfinal draws are scheduled for Friday, March 20, at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo, with the first fixtures set to be played next week Tuesday.
