Pepsi University Football League: Newcomers against the Historicals,Mountains of the Moon Host Kampala University in High-Stakes Clash

Football fever has gripped Fort Portal ahead of a blockbuster encounter in the Pepsi University Football League (UFL), as Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) welcome Kampala University (KU) in what promises to be a thrilling clash of ambition versus experience.
This eagerly awaited fixture, set for Monday, marks the first-ever meeting between the two institutions — and the atmosphere around Fort Portal is already electric. Fans are calling it a “battle of firsts and favorites,” with MMU seeking their maiden win in the competition while KU aim to reassert their championship credentials.
MMU may be debutants in the UFL, but they carry the spirit and pride of the Tooro region. After holding University of Kisubi to a goalless draw in their opening match, the newcomers showed flashes of brilliance that left their supporters hopeful for more.
“All players are in good shape and ready for our game against Kampala University,” said Nyakairu Solomon, head coach of MMU. “We’ve worked on our weaknesses and are focused on building on our strengths. Our goal is to make Fort Portal a tough place for any team to visit.”
The Fort Portal side has earned admiration for their discipline and teamwork, with home fans expected to turn up in large numbers to cheer them on in what could be a historic home victory.
But MMU’s opponents are no pushovers. Kampala University, two-time UFL champions, bring with them years of experience and a hunger to reclaim their place among the league’s elite. Led by star striker Gilbert Wanume, last season’s top scorer, and captain Abbey Mulamba, KU have the firepower to trouble any defense.
“This is going to be a tough fixture, but we have prepared well,” noted Tumusiime Vincent, KU’s head coach. “We’ve corrected our mistakes from the first game, and we’re not here to lose.”
Kampala University also opened their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Uganda Martyrs University, and like MMU, they come into Matchday 2 seeking their first victory of the season.
