Among the 23 Universities is the 2023 Pepsi University Football League, Kabale University is the varsity with the newest bus but tie with Gulu University to concede many goals in three games (9).
After conceding 6-0 in their previous outing at Bugema, Kabale University returned to Central on Friday for another bundle three as they conclude their first round.
At Nkozi Grounds, the defending champions proved to Nsubuga Farouk boys that they are very serious on their pursuit of retaining the trophy, they put three past Kabale.
Vicent Masumbuko, Kaija Sanny and Ssentongo Akbar were the three on target who secured maximum points for the 2017 champions.
21 minutes inside first half, with a powerful header, Masumbuko Vicent who late in game was sent off the pitch after a dangerous play, sent UMU into the lead, thanks to Kayondo Joseph well laid corner from the right wing.
Kaija Sanny doubled the lead for the hosts with an half volley strike in the 29th minute, Akampa Hillary, Kabale University custodian failed to handle the cross from Wabede Titus, ball passed through his hands and landed on Kaija’s right foot and punished the visitors for reckless goalkeeping.
Kabale also created a few chances but their forward Muzoora Alleluyah didn’t travel with his scoring boots.
Before Ssentongo Akbar appear on the score shirt in the 84th minute, Emayo Calvin scored a goal in the 70th minute, centre referee, Mugambo Peter counted it but later dissolved his ruling and cancelled the goal after a consultation from the second assistant referee, Kitabalwa Jothan because the fans entered the pitch before the goal was scored.
However, in the 84th minute Ssentongo Akbar replaced the goal with a tapped in the header from Emayo Calvin and stretched the lead to 3 goals and registered his fifth goal of the season.
Two minutes to the final whistle, Vicent Masumbuko had a dangerous play on Kabale’s player and he was handed a straight red card and he became the first player in the 11th edition to be sent off.
Uganda Martyrs University moved to nine points in three games, maintaining their spot at the top of the table, they only need one win to make it to quarterfinals.
Kabale University have three points in three games which put them in a difficult situation to make it out of the group this season.
The league will resume on Saturday when Kyambogo University will be hosting struggling Ndejje University at Kyambogo.
