Pepsi UFL: Makerere is More Deadly When it Rains, Disciplines Ndejje at Own Home

It seems rain is becoming a blessing in disguise for Makerere University this season, collected much needed three points from Luweero following a 3-0 win over Ndejje University on a rainy Saturday.
Oceng Ivan, Emmanuel Ekwong and Kasaga Sadat scored the three important goals that handed Makerere it’s second win and the first on road.
The game delayed to start at least 90 minutes due to heavy downpour that took over an hour watering the field.
This is the second Makerere University is winning a game when it has rained, the first it was on their opener at Makerere and they beat 2018 champions, Kyambogo University, thanks to Kasaga Sadat strike.
Four minutes into the game, Oceng Ivan had already handed the Bamweyana boys lead with a hard shot at the near post.
Since the pitch was waterlogged, the ball was more at the over heads, and the water disturbed the play especially in the first half whenever the teams tried to put the ball on surface.
First stanza ended 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
Second half, Ndejje came back with a lot of enthusiasm to level the matters in the opening minutes, they tried it but Makerere never allowed them to shoot near the box and the shots were not so impactful until Emmanuel Ekwong stretched the lead for Makerere in the 63rd minute.
Kasaga Sadat made it three for the visitors through a penalty kick in the 82nd minute and they walked he with all the three points.
“I don’t even don’t how to explain it, we came well prepared for the game, it was shining but all of the sudden it rained, we have never played rain football, it has affected us, we entered the pitch when the bodies are down and we conceded am early goal, we failed to comeback and it ended 3-0. However, this is the first game we lost, we still have more games and if we win them, we shall make it out of the group and I am still optimistic that we can do it.” Ashakimana Christopher, Ndejje University player.
Makerere University skipper, Mudasi Ian and his tactician, Douglas Bamweyana could not hide the excitement after winning the game.
“I am so excited and am so happy and I know that each and every player is mentally tough, we are ready to take it all and it’s just a message to all other teams that we’re coming, this is a new Makerere generation and we want to make a statement.” Says Mudaasi Ian.
“We’re happy for the result, we were not happy with the turf because of the rain, it was not as friendly as we would have loved, we came here when the pitch was perfect and we were excited then it rained heavily but in end we were happy to find ways to find, we came very committed to find the win today and we are happy to go with it.”
Makerere now tops group C with six points in two games, Muni second with a point, Ndejje University and Kyambogo take the third and last position respectively.
The league resumes on Sunday when wounded Bugema University will be taking on high flying Kabale University.
