Big League: Kalanzi, Mutebi Shines As Police FC Beat Jinja North United
Police FC have defeated Jinja North United FC 1-0 on Saturday evening to register their second consecutive win of the season.
Denis Kalanzi’s first half goal was enough for the Cops to beat Jinja North United FC at their home soil and go on top of the table now with six points.
Police FC opened the account in the 36th minute through striker Denis Kalanzi. Martin Owalamu brought a well calculated cross inside the box, Isaac Ogwang headed to find Denis Kalanzi at the far corner and taped in to beat the goalkeeper and put his side in the lead before the break.
The first stanza of the game ended 0-1 in favor of Police FC, leaving an uphill for the hosts.
In the second half, Jinja North United FC were awarded a penalty. Bronson Nsubuga took the shot from the spot but smart goalkeeper Davis Mutebi saved it to keep his side in the lead.
Both sides had chances to score but failed to utilize them.
The win took Police FC on the top of the table with 6 points from two games. Police FC edged Young Elephants 2-1 in the first game before today’s narrow win.
Today’s loss means that Jinja North United are still winless this season, they shared spoils with Booma FC in 1-1 draw in the opening game before losing today.
After the vital win, Police FC coach Simon Peter Mugerwa praised his players for the excellent performance.
“I am really happy with the boys, they have fought tooth and nail to earn the three points. They played on the game plan and my goalkeeper stood up when we need him the most and saved the penalty. I’m really impressed with performance.” Said excited Mugerwa Peter.
Police FC will host Ndejje University in their next game on 05th October at Kavumba Recreation Centre, while Jinja North United Blacks Power FC on 8th October at Akiibua Stadium-Lira.
