The two times Pepsi University football league finalists, St Lawrence University continued with it’s perfect start in the 11th edition of the league, beating IUEA 3-1 at Kirombe playground- Kampala on Friday.
Skipper, Balondemu David Lukisi, Matenge Innocent and substitute, Kaye Peter scored the three goals that gave St Lawrence it’s first away win this season and the consolation for Wasswa Mawanda’s side was scored by Bino Marker.
St Lawrence first got the lead four minutes to half time break through Balondemu David Lukisi header.
Five minutes into second half, Bino Marker leveled the matter with a simple tap in, thanks to Athorbet Marker short cross from the left flank.
In the 70th minute, Matenge Innocent separated the tie with a scorcher that left the crowd amused.
Six minutes later, IUEA got a chance to level the matters when got a penalty but Athorbet Marker failed to convert it at the back of the net and put the ball off target.
In the 90th minute, substitute, Kaye Peter with a lovely first touch and a sweet finished that handed a sweet away win.
Despite having a win on road, St Lawrence University tactician confessed that International University of East Africa is a much improvement side compared to that of previous seasons.
“We won the game but it has been too tight, only that the day has been ours, we have been lucky compared to them, because they had all the chances to have a result today.” Says Nnono Davis.
“IUEA is a strong team, it has aggressive players, very improved this season, has good Technical bench and is a good competitor in this group.” He confessed
“I have never underestimated the team, because every player who got the license, is eligible and capable to play that why you saw I started with those and the rest were for plan B, but what I can assure you, IUEA is a Changed team compared to the one of previous seasons. Yes we have six points but we have more 12 to fight for, it’s not over yet.”
St Lawrence returned on top of the table of group E with six points in two games, in their next fixtures, IUEA will be hosting Nkumba University at Kirombe playground-Kampala while St Lawrence University will be welcoming Gulu University.
The league continues today as Ndejje University hosting Makerere University at Vision of Arena in Luweero.
