Kampala International Badminton Series: Tracy Naluwooza Eliminated as Kasirye, Husina to Quarters

The Kampala International Series tournament that started yesterday on Thursday at Lugogo Indoor Arena reaches knock out stages and Uganda’s star Tracy Naluwooza was eliminated at round of 16.

To be eliminated, Tracy lost against Polish and seed two in the tournament, Wiktoria Dabczynska two sets straight (21-7,21-8) but Naluwooza is still the race for double.

Uganda’s seed one, male category and seed one in this tournament, Kasirye Brian and seed two in women category Husina Kobugabe qualified to quarterfinals after beating Equatorial Guinean Obiegue Solomon (21-05,21-14) and Sreeyuktha Sreejith Parol from United Arab Emirates (21-11,21-09) respectively.

Poland’s Matthew Abela found it had to eliminate Uganda’s Kenneth Comfort Mwambu at round of 16, Mwambu lost the tie 2-1, and he had the lead of the first set 23-21 but he failed to win the second losing it 21-12 and lost the  decider 21-18.

The other Ugandans who have failed to go past round of 16 in singles, are; Thomas Kateregga who lost to Micheal Daniel Royce Karamoy (21-08,21-10) and Reagan Michael Nsubuga who lost to Caden Kakora 21-12,21-12.

Uganda still have hope in winning medals in doubles, because the pair of Brian Kasirye and Muzafaru Lubega qualifed for quarters.

The other qualified pairs is that of Expedito Emuddu and Augustus Owinyi, Jordan Abo and Geofrey Alema pair, that of Ismail Mungufeni and Dennis Omara.

The pair of Reagan Michael Nsubuga and Aslam Oduka and Kenneth Comfort Mwambu and Abdul Swaburuh Ssempiri.

The Kampala International Series is an Olympic qualifying points gathering tournament and it’s set to climax on Sunday, 1, October 2023 at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
