Pepsi UFL: Gulu Continues with Bad Travellers’ Habit, Swallows Four at Nkumba

Even today, Gulu University failed to break the jinx of not going past two away wins in Pepsi University Football League when they bowed to Nkumba University and swallowed four on the day.
The Beach Boys, thumped Gulu 4-0 at Nkumba University grounds with Mete Irivia scoring a brace, Nsereko Jama and Musuga Isaac also appearing on the day’s score sheet.
The 2016 finalists started on a front foot demanding for a goal but were unclinical and reckless before the goal mouth and their first scoring opportunity came in the 2nd minute but Nsereko’s attempt was deflected for a corner.
However, 25 minutes into first half, Nsereko found the back of the net before Mete scored in the 44th minute to have a first half score line at 2-0 in four of the hosts.
Eight minutes into second stanza, Mete with a beauty completed his brace and Musuga Isaac sealed the biggest win in the league so far in the 57th minute.
Omony Robert charges also created chances and got many scoring opportunities but they didn’t come on the day, failing to convert and any chance of the many they created and allowed Nkumba University to go top of the table of group E with three points and two goal advantage.
Gulu University also on the day failed to break the jinx of not winning more than two away fixtures since they joined University Football League, the two came against Bugema University and Muni University.
Omony Robert revealed that the absence of five players from his squad due to injuries had costed him a lot though he is still optimistic that Gulu can get out of the group since it’s a marathon.
“It’s a new season, so you expect that, 4-0 is a bad result but not very bad, we have to build from there, losing away 4-0 is not good but the reason is, I have like five players who are injured, all are my starters, that costed me a lot. But it’s a home and a way league, it’s going to run like a marathon,. Yes we played not our game, those who follow us know that we play a good football but we shall go back and rectify that, the bigger problem was that we were lacking all our midfielders, and you can see all the goals came from our midfield but we’re going to get back.” Says Omony Robert Gulu University Coach.
Sulaiman Bbosa, Nkumba University tactician was impressed with his boys but also asserted that they squandered a lot of chances.
“That’s how football is, sometimes you play bad and then another time you play good football, we lost our first game 3-1 against St Lawrence, we had a lot of challenges in that game, we came back and rectified it, the display can tell, at least the way we played is a bit better, we scored four but again to me we didn’t utilize also our chances, it would be like 8-0, but I credit boys that we have achieved our target, we came in the game to whitewash the negative goals we had and even to get three points which we did.” Said Sulaiman Bbosa, Nkumba University head coach.
The league will continue on Thursday still on Entebbe road when University of Kisubi will be hosting defending champions, Uganda Marty’s University.
