Finance Trust Bank: Shs100m Investment Set to Drive Women’s Football Symposium

Finance Trust Bank has committed Shs100 million towards a one-day Women Football Symposium aimed at shaping the future of women’s football in Uganda.
The symposium, scheduled for September 9, 2026, at Skys Hotel in Naguru, will bring together key stakeholders from FUFA, women’s football clubs, the corporate sector and the media to discuss strategies for strengthening, promoting and sustaining the women’s game.
The announcement was made on Thursday during a press conference held at Finance Trust Bank headquarters at Twed Plaza in Kampala.
Speaking at the event, Finance Trust Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Percy Lubega said the bank’s investment is part of its wider commitment to supporting women’s development across different sectors.

“As a bank, we are committed to putting women first and helping women grow in every sector. This is why we have been sponsoring the women’s football leagues and why we are today also headlining this Women Football Symposium,” Lubega said.
The symposium comes after several years of growth in Uganda’s women’s football, with the FUFA Women Super League and Women Elite League becoming increasingly competitive, while Regional Women Football Leagues have also been introduced.
FUFA 2nd Vice President Dr Aza Taibuh said the progress has also been reflected in the performances of Uganda’s various women’s national teams at regional and continental level.

“As we have seen, women’s football in Uganda has grown tremendously in the last few years. The Super League and Elite League have been strengthened, and we also now have Regional Women Football Leagues,” Dr Aza said.
“Consequently, our different women’s national football teams have been performing well at regional and continental levels. The game has, without a doubt, grown, but there is more to be done, hence this symposium.”
The event will also celebrate achievements from the 2025/26 season, with FUFA and Finance Trust Bank set to recognise outstanding performers from the two sponsored leagues.
Among the awards to be presented are the Best Player, Best Coach, Best XI and Best Journalist of the Year, alongside the Best Upcoming Talent, while additional categories are still under discussion.
The symposium will provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, identify challenges and explore opportunities that can further improve the development, visibility and sustainability of women’s football in Uganda.

It will be the first Women Football Symposium since the last edition was held in 2019 which was about the take flight project that died prematurely.
The investment comes as Finance Trust Bank continues its partnership with FUFA as the title sponsor of the Women Super League and Women Elite League.
The 2026/27 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League season is scheduled to kick off on September 12, three days after the symposium.
