Volf Soccer Academy returned home victorious on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from Nairobi, Kenya, where they represented Uganda at the 2026 Ligi Cup East Africa organised by Ligi Ndogo.

The young players were welcomed by their parents at their training ground at St. Henry’s Gardens in Makindye, Kampala. The reception included a meal shared with the parents, followed by a celebratory cake-cutting ceremony prepared by the players’ families.

Volf Soccer Academy’s biggest success came in the U11 category, where they were crowned champions after defeating Kenyan side Fazam Football Academy 1-0 in the final, with Shuraim Wagaba scoring the decisive goal.

Exposure beyond Uganda

Volf Soccer Academy director and coach Peter Sserumaga said the decision to take the young players to Nairobi was aimed at giving them exposure beyond the Ugandan football environment.

“There are many tournaments that we have played and won in Uganda, but the reason why we wanted to take these children to Nairobi is because we want them to be exposed to a different environment and gain confidence. Touring was also a key reason why we took them to Nairobi,” Sserumaga said.

The trip also provided an opportunity for the children to interact with players from different backgrounds and experience a different competitive environment.

Parents encouraged to support children

For the welfare and support of the young players, the academy travelled with some parents, including Josephine Nakafeero.

Nakafeero said the experience in Kenya taught her the importance of parental involvement in children’s sporting development.

“One of the things that helped us to be victorious is discipline. While in Kenya, I saw many parents leaving work to go and support their children on all the days the Ligi Cup was played. I call upon all parents who have children playing football or any other sport to spare time and go to support them when they are playing,” she said.

Captain proud of unbeaten campaign

Volf Soccer Academy captain Ephraim Kwagala was delighted to lead his teammates to the U11 title without conceding a goal throughout the tournament.

“I am so excited that we came back as champions. I am grateful that we played and did not lose any game, and we did not concede a single goal despite facing tough opponents,” Kwagala said.

The young captain already has his eyes set on a career in Europe.

“When I grow up, I want to play football in Europe, mostly in countries like Spain and England and other top leagues in Europe,” he added.

Kavuma Sanchez claims individual honours

The academy also celebrated individual success, with Ethan Kavuma Sanchez being named the U11 Most Valuable Player (MVP) and finishing as the category’s top scorer.

Kavuma credited his parents and coaches for their support.

“I thank God that I was voted MVP of the category and also became the top scorer. Thanks go to my parents who paid for me and the coaches who trained us well. I want to play football and become one of the top players in the world,” he said.
