Uganda Gave us Headache – Jamaica Tactician Confesses

Jamaica Netball team head coach Connie Francis confessed that Uganda gave her headache and she is glad that the game is finally done.

In their opening game of stage two of Netball World Cup in South Africa, Jamaica [World’s number four] beat Uganda by a margin of 12 goals after a 61-49 fulltime score.

The game was a beat tight in the first quarter, though Jamaica won that quarter 15-12, the Connie Francis charges came back stronger in the second quarter and scored a whoop of 23 as Uganda managed only 09, however, Uganda stabilized in the last two quarters and managed to win the third quarter scoring 16 against 11 for Jamaica and the last quarter, they tired at 12 goals up.

While addressing media on Monday, Connie Francis, the Jamaican tactician confessed that Uganda was a tough side and it’s one of the nations that give them headache due to their style of play.

“They [Uganda] play slow but their movements are very dynamic, they don’t offer direct ones, they use small spaces very well and they ensure that they capture the space in the passing lane, they really support each other, they are very strong body to body.” Connie Francis, the Jamaican tactician confessed while addressing media.

“I am glad that the game against Uganda is over to tell the truth.”

Jhaniele Fowler, the Jamaican shooter and skipper had a 100% scoring accuracy also revealed that though she had that percentage, it was tough for them against Uganda due to their physic and how they use the spaces.

About what Uganda needs to do start battle for medals at the world stage, Connie gave a hint on how Jamaica did it.

“To become more consistent, we started investing in our players, we started to have local leagues, we started to have grassroots the U13,U16 and 21, we make sure that the girls never lose the love for the game and keep them engaged, it’s not all about finances but it can be the care you show that you’re there for them, when we started winning, we started to get sponsors, the players were spotted for international club netball, when they come back, they add value to us.” She revealed.

Jamaica is one of the title contenders in the 2023 Netball World Cup underway in south Africa and they are currently ranked 4th in the world.
