Mukono Junior School were on Sunday 30th July 2023 crowned champions of Mukono District in the 2023 FUFA Primary Schools Championship Odilo in the qualifiers hosted at Takajjunge.
To become winners, Mukono Junior School defeated defending champions, Cradleland Junior School, Green valley Primary School and their second team in Mukono Junior School Team B by 2-0, 7-0 and 6-1 score line respectively.
The tight competition was between Mukono Junior School team A against defending champions, Cradleland Junior School and the winner was decided when the two teams faced off. Mukono Junior won the encounter by 2-0 score line.
During the crowning ceremony attended by Mukono District Football Association general secretary, Wilberforce Ssemwogerere who urged the champion to go and represent the District well at not only Region but also at National if they make it there.
“Mukono DFA wish to congratulate the champion in Mukono Junior School and hardluck to other Schools. Since we have now the District champion, our call to you is, go and and represent us well at Region”. Said, Wilberforce Ssemwogerere.
David Kamanzi, the Mukono Junior School head of coaching staff vowed that his team has all what it takes to represent not only Mukono District but also Buganda Region at large.
“These are young boys who know how to use the ball and of course this qualifies to have a strong team which can represent not only the District (Mukono) but Buganda Region at large”. Stated David Kamanzi
2023 is the first year that Mukono Junior School has taken part in FUFA Primary School championship Odilo and they have emerged winners of Mukono District.
Buganda Zone 1 (Greater Mukono) which comprises of Mukono, Kayunga, Buikwe and Buvuma will play hosts to this years Buganda Region qualifiers.
Rays of Grace Junior School from Buikwe has emerged the champions of Buganda and Uganda in the last Two editions held (2019 and 2022).
