FWSL: Queens, Martyrs To ‘Wrestle’ For Crucial Win

Two teams with title hopes in the 2022/23 FUFA Women Super League (FWSL) in Kampala Queens and Uganda Martyrs will each, on Saturday 8th, October 2022, have a chance to move top of the standings.
Seen as some of the current giant ladies’ clubs in the country, their clash will be highly coveted by many women’s football fans, as they are set to ‘lock horns’ at the IUIU playground in Kabojja at 10am.
Both clubs haven’t lost a single game this season, and every team will hope to use extra energy to secure hugely crucial maximum points.
Kampala Queens have collected nine (9) points so far from the three (3) games played, with a thrashing of Asubo Gafford, a huge win over She Corporates and a hard fought triumph against a spirited She MAK last weekend.
Uganda Martyrs, on the other hand, have secured seven (7) points from the three (3) games played, defeating Rines, Asubo Gafford, and sharing the spoils with She Corporates.
The difference between the two teams, Queens and Martyrs, is thus two (2) points, with a win for Queens needed to stretch the gap to five points, and for Martyrs to go top by one point.
The ‘Palace Queens’ (Kampala Queens) have only one player that is doubtful for the clash, that is, Zaina Nandede, who picked up a slight injury against She MAK.
Kampala Queens assistant coach, Mr Kato, is, surprisingly, hugely confident that his side will pick up the three points from the game.
“It is our home game and the fourth game [of the season). We are taking on a young, stubborn, but talented team that works together. We are ready to face them because we also have quality players and they are in good shape,” Coach Kato said.
“We are ready to go because it is a game that puts us in a better position if we are to win the championship, and we are ready to get good results,” Coach Kato added.
“It is a tough game, but we will use the available resources to make sure we pick up maximum points,” Coach Kato reiterated.
On the side of Uganda Martyrs, they will either have to end the unbeaten run of their archrival or allow Queens to put a huge five point gap between the sides if Martyrs lose, meaning that the fixture might have a huge implication on the destination of the next league title.
The young and talented Uganda Martyrs Ladies team will however need to double their efforts if they are to pick up the maximum points against their hosts, because some few factors between themselves might reduce their chances such as experience and the quality players available on the Queens’ roster.
The head coach of Uganda Martyrs, Mr Ssozi, expects a tough game, but believes his team is ready to face Kampala Queens.
“We are playing Kampala Queens, a team with good players and good coaches, but in football, we always respect opponents but don’t give them a chance to win,” Coach Ssozi noted.
“We expect a win because our girls are determined, focused and committed to face the opponents tomorrow,” Coach Ssozi said on Friday.
Listening to the two coaching contingents really builds up the already huge atmosphere for what will be a blockbuster clash between two great teams.
The last time the two sides met at Lubaga saw the game end in a 2-2 draw, a result that both teams will surely want to avoid as they go all in for the win.
