Finance Minister Launches Budget Month

The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Matia Kasaija on Tuesday launched the National budget month that come before the budgetary projections of the financial year 2022/23.

Over the years, the government has partnered with the civil society organisations in supporting and promoting the budget transparency initiative and The theme for this year is all about; ” Full monetization of the Ugandan economy through commercial agriculture, industrialization, expanding and broadening services and digital transformation and market access.”

Many Ugandans wanted the government to reduce on the taxes as one of the ways to curb down high prices and inflation the country is facing today.

However,while addressing Press at Uganda Media Centre-Kampala on Tuesday, the minister asserted that removing taxes is not the solution to the Ugandan economy growth.

“When you pay your taxes duly you are investing in yourself. Because when you give me [government] that money, I do things you cannot do as a businessman, as a businesswoman or even a citizen”

According to Minister, the financial year 2022/23 budget will aim at achieving peace and stability through enhanced security and macroeconomic stability as a key foundation for growth and development.

The budget also aimed at mitigating the impact of COVID-19 pandemic through wide spread of vaccination, support to businesses and reopening the economy to enable all sectors to function.

In this regard, The national budget speech will be delivered by the minister on 14th June 2022 and later the president will address the nation.

“Let me now give you a sneak peek into the budget for the coming fiscal year
2022/23. Our theme is ‘Full Monetization of the Ugandan Economy
Through Commercial Agriculture, Industrialization, Expanding and
Broadening services.” Minister in his words.

“No body should debate with out taking information first in this regard Ugandans must be mindful of accessing the government information.” Said Minister.

Due to COVID-19cpandemic, the government has decided to implement only the existing taxes not to introduce new taxes which will help Ugandans at least to uplift their businesses and this is done through implementing government projects like parish development model.
