Busitema, Uganda — Busitema University is taking a bold step in expanding Uganda’s sports landscape as it prepares to host the Busitema Open Lacrosse Championship on November 8, 2025, at its main campus.
Under the leadership of Dr. Agnes Baluka, the University Sports Tutor, Busitema has become a beacon for sports innovation and talent development in Eastern Uganda. The upcoming championship is part of the institution’s broader vision to promote emerging sports like lacrosse and provide young athletes with a platform to shine.

“We are proud to host the Busitema Open Lacrosse Championship as part of our mission to nurture new sports and empower the youth through competition,” said Dr. Baluka. “This event will not only showcase talent but also reflect Busitema University’s commitment to excellence, teamwork, and community growth.”
The tournament is organized in partnership with the Busitema University Sports Department, attracting both men’s and women’s teams from across Uganda and the East African region. Teams already confirmed include the Rock Stars Lacrosse Academy from Mumias, Kenya, alongside top Ugandan teams such as Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and Metropolitan International University (MIU) from Kampala.

Dr. Baluka’s leadership has been instrumental in positioning Busitema University as a rising force in Uganda’s sports fraternity — encouraging students to embrace both academics and athletics as tools for holistic growth.
The Uganda Lacrosse Association, through its Development Director Isaac Mutebi, has pledged full technical support to ensure a successful and well-organized event.
Adding to the excitement, the championship will feature a rugby exhibition match, further emphasizing Busitema’s dynamic sporting culture and its dedication to giving fans a memorable experience.
With lacrosse rapidly spreading across the country, the Busitema Open is expected to be a milestone event that cements the university’s role as a driver of sports innovation and youth development in Uganda.
The event is proudly supported by Busitema University, Jibu Water, Splint Sport Group, Explorer Lax, Silverbacks Youth Sports Programme, Navy Seals Lax, and the Uganda Lacrosse Association.
