‘You Can Now Take Yourself in slavery with no hurdle’, Govt Scrap off Interpol Clearance

Previously, people traveling abroad for work, had to get certificate from Interpol of Good Conduct and it was one of the requirements for any Ugandan to get a job in outside countries.

However, that will be History starting this Wednesday 13th of October 2021, according to the decision made by cabinet last week

The directive takes effect on October 13 and only excludes those seeking work in the security sector.

This was communicated to internal affairs minister Maj Gen (rtd) Kahinda Otafiire by his Gender counterpart Betty Amongi.

Amongi requested Otafiire to cause further instructions to the specific relevant officers who are required to operationalise this Cabinet directive.

‘By copy of this letter, all relevant officials at the Airport, border point and Interpol are notified of the directive,’ reads the letter dated October 8.

An Interpol certificate of good conduct has until now been one of the requirements for travel abroad to seek employment.

Thousands of Ugandans travel to the Middle East in search of jobs mostly as domestic workers and in the hospitality industry.
