Women Football: Makerere Shows Transparency in Signing ‘Most Expensive’ Striker

In the pursuit to strengthen their squad ahead of second round of FUFA Women’s Super League 2022/23 season, Makerere University WFC completed the signing of Tanzanian national, Mpanja Husna Ayoub from The Tigers.

Mpanja, a 17 year old promising goal poacher signed a one year contract with Makerere University and according to the club Media Officer, Ssegawa James, the deal took 2.5 million shillings to be complete.

That means, it’s the first time in the history of women’s football a club to disclose the amount spent on signing a player, however, it would be not the most expensive transfer move in the league though others don’t disclose the fees.

The lethal striker before joining Makerere, she helped her former side, Tiger to progress to Tanzania ‘s topflight league in 2021 and in that season,Husna scored 24 goals.

Husna became the first foreign player to be signed by Makerere University but clubs like Asubo Gafford ladies, She Corporate, Lady Doves FC and UCU have ever used players from abroad.

If she quickly fits in the league, Mpanja will be of great importance to Makerere University, a side that is fighting relegation and their scoring rate has been below average.

Mpanja was a top Scorer last 2021 season in Tanzanian Elite League, she help The Tiger to get promoted to premier league the following season and She scored 24 goals in 2021 season.

In 2022 she played Tanzania woman primer league.

She featured for Tanzania in the 2022 India U17 world Cup U17.

She was among the Tanzania squad that won a bronze medal in 2022 COSAFA Championship held in South Africa in 2022.

She played Wold cup qualifiers 2022 with Tanzania Women National Team U17.
