We wanted to have more Televised Matches, UPL CEO on Lunchtime Fixtures

Uganda Premier League Chief Executive Officer, Bernard Bainamani Bampire revealed the spirit they brought in lunchtime fixtures in this current season to which football stakeholders have been questioning.

It should be noted that this season, Uganda Premier league that is season, a number of League games have been honored during lunchtime and the clubs that had such fixtures, include; Vipers SC, Police FC, Kyetume FC, Bright Stars and BUL FC and most of these games were held at FUFA Technical Centre- Njeru.

While addressing media on Monday at Kati Kati Restaurant- Lugogo, Bernard Bainamani explained the spirit in which they brought in the idea.

“The spirit behind this initially was that since we are playing behind closed doors, we should increase on the number of televised matches viewers can watch,” Bainamani stated.

“So we agreed with the broadcaster on this introduction of double-headers, that if an OB van comes to the venue, they can do both games, that was the initial plan.

“But along the way, there were some technical challenges and the plan was never implemented. Then we looked at the possibility of readjusting, like separating those double-headers but then we saw it could create chaos and we decided to go through them painfully.

But that challenge will not be forwarded to second round.” Bainamani explained to media.

Bainamani also stated that the board received the remaining portion for the clubs from StarTimes, and he revealed that the second round is expected to return in early April and the fixture is soon getting out.

At the same event, Pilsner awarded the best performers of February in UPL, and Fred Kajoba, the Vipers SC coach named the best coach of the month and Police FC’s on-form forward, Brian ‘Mululi’ Mayanja took the the gong of best player and each walked away with one million shillings prize.
